Indigenous tradition and living cultural heritage in Uganda

Storytelling is the art of telling stories and an ancient tradition for conveying information. As a social activity, storytelling creates a sense of community, simplifies abstract content into a simple message, and triggers emotions and reactions in listeners.

Ugandan artist Suzan Kerunen will introduce the art of storytelling in English and talk about her work with the Batwa, an indigenous people from southern Uganda. Storytelling – the recounting of traditional knowledge – is her traditional way of preserving the (endangered) culture of indigenous peoples for the future.

Suzan Kerunen is a multilingual and multicultural singer and songwriter in the genres of world music, Afro fusion and folk. She registered KNOW YOUR CULTURE FOUNDATION to create cultural awareness in the society of Uganda but also promote cultural tourism.

Storytelling (engl.) ist das Erzählen von Geschichten und eine uralte Tradition, um Informationen zu vermitteln. Als soziale Aktivität schafft das Geschichtenerzählen ein Gemeinschaftsgefühl, vereinfacht abstrakte Inhalte zu einer einfachen Botschaft und löst Emotionen und Reaktionen bei den Zuhörern aus.

Die ugandische Künstlerin Suzan Kerunen wird die Kunst des Storytelling in englischer Sprache vorstellen und dabei über ihre Arbeit mit den Batwa, einem indigenen Volk aus Ugandas Süden, sprechen. Das Storytelling - Erzählen von überliefertem Wissen - ist ihr traditioneller Weg, um die (bedrohte) Kultur indigener Völker in die Zukunft zu retten.

Suzan Kerunen ist mehrsprachige und multikulturelle Sängerin und Songwriterin der Genres World Music, Afro Fusion und Folk. Sie gründete die KNOW YOUR CULTURE FOUNDATION, um das kulturelle Bewusstsein der Gesellschaft in Uganda zu stärken und den Kulturtourismus zu fördern.
